As busy, stressed out parents, we can’t always remember the parenting tips we’ve picked up throughout the year and thought, “I need to try and remember that one.” So, here’s a quick and easy list of the key things we think are the most important to remember when parenting kids, especially our more highly sensitive ones:
Parents need to be the container for their kid’s emotions, so remember to pause and be the calm in their storm
Don’t take your child or teen’s behavior personally, behavior has meaning, it’s not about you
Try and respond to your child or teen’s big emotions and behaviors instead of reacting
The heat of the moment is not a “teachable moment,” you can always process big feelings and behaviors later
You’re doing the best you can with what you know and every moment is a new opportunity to try again
Your relationship with your child or teen matters, so nurture it!
Happy Holidays! Well wishes for 2023!
